The incident occurred on November 26, when 23-year-old Zoe Carter allegedly attempted the “Reverse Reflex” challenge, a risky trend encouraging participants to create elaborate obstacle courses for their pets.
According to local authorities, Carter was arrested after the stunt ended in disaster. The challenge, which involves using household items to create an intricate series of jumps and slides, required pets to navigate the course under timed conditions. Witnesses reported seeing Teddy, a three-year-old miniature poodle, visibly distressed while being coerced into the setup before an unexpected accident caused fatal injuries.
“This tragedy was entirely preventable,” said Officer Laura Jenkins, a spokesperson for the investigating department. “The challenge not only disregards animal welfare but encourages unsafe behavior for social media clout.”
The viral nature of the TikTok trend has fueled backlash online, with users expressing outrage over the incident. The hashtag #JusticeForTeddy has gained significant traction, with animal rights activists calling for stricter regulations against social media content promoting harm to animals.

“This isn’t entertainment; it’s cruelty,” said Rachel Turner, founder of the advocacy group Paws For Change. “Platforms like TikTok must do more to monitor and remove dangerous trends before they result in further harm to animals or people.”
Carter, who allegedly filmed and posted the video herself, has since deleted her TikTok account. She faces charges of animal cruelty and reckless endangerment, with a court date scheduled for December 15.
TikTok released a statement condemning the challenge and emphasizing its commitment to safety, stating, “We do not condone any content that promotes harm to animals or humans. Violations of our policies are promptly removed.”
As the investigation continues, the tragic death of Teddy has ignited a broader conversation about the ethics of viral challenges and the responsibility of creators to prioritize safety over views.
